  • If you choose to join an ambassador's circle, your name will become visible, but only to other circle members. That way you can send each other messages and refer deals.
  • Profile administrators will be able to search for you by name if they want to invite you to become a co-administrator, circle member or screening committee member.

Thank you for your interest in AngelRoot™. Please read the following Privacy Policy carefully and make sure you understand and agree with all provisions herein before accessing any information or content available on or through the AngelRoot website or utilizing the AngelRoot platform or any of the services available on, through or in connection therewith.

AngelRoot, Inc., a New York State Benefit corporation (“ARI”, “We” ,”Us” or the “Corporation”), is the operator of the AngelRoot website (the “Site”) and the technology, database and system that underlies the site (the “Platform”). We respect your privacy, and we understand the importance of protecting the privacy of your personal information. We created this privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) to give you confidence as you use the Platform and services that may be available on/through the Site (collectively, the “Services”) and to explain how we collect, use and disclose your information when you access the Site and use the Services. This Privacy Policy, together with our Terms of Service, governs your access to and use of our Site and Services. The Terms of Service are incorporated herein by reference, and unless otherwise defined herein, all capitalized terms in this Privacy Policy shall have the meanings indicated in the Terms of Service.

1. THE PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy governs the information ARI collects from our Users and is only applicable to the Site and not to any other websites that you may be able to access from the Site including but not limited to all Third Party Websites; each of which may have data collection, storage, and use practices and policies that differ materially from this Privacy Policy, nor does this Privacy Policy dictate other information collection practices that may occur, separate and apart from the Site.

2. THE INFORMATION THAT ARI COLLECTS

A. Personal Information

While you may access certain portions of the Site without registering with the Site, to view the majority of content on our Site and utilize many of our Services you are required to register with the Site. As part of the registration process, you will create a username and password. The username and password that you provide are your credentials (“Credentials”) for accessing those Services that are only available to Registered Users. You are responsible for keeping your Credentials confidential and for notifying us if they have been hacked or stolen. You may notify us by filling out the contact form.

As part of the Site registration process and in connection with your use of certain Services, you will also be required to submit certain information personally identifying you, which will vary depending upon whether you are registering as an Investor, Mentor, Entrepreneur, University IP Custodian (collectively, “Personal Information”).

We use the Personal Information that you provide to verify your registration with the Site, to better understand your needs and interests, to provide you with the specific Services you select, and to communicate with you about Site maintenance and updates, as appropriate. You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the Personal Information you submit to the Site. Inaccurate information will affect your experience with the Site and our ability to contact you as described in this Privacy Policy, and you are prohibited from submitting any false or intentionally misleading Personal Information to the Site. You may choose not to provide us with any Personal Information. In such case, however, you will not be able to use those Services that are accessible only to Registered Users. Subject to this Privacy Policy, if you contact ARI directly, we may use any of the information you submit in connection with your inquiry, or any Personal Information and/or anonymous information that we may have about you when responding to your inquiries.

B. Alumni Information

As part of the Site registration process and in connection with your participation in the Site generally, we may request access to and from the university that you identify yourself as an alumnus of by the virtue of you becoming a community member of a University Network, so that it may provide ARI with certain information pertaining to and confirming your status as an alumnus or the status of the member who invites you to participate in the Site specifically in a University Network. ARI only utilizes such data about alumni for the purposes of verifying your registration, to better understand your needs and interests, to provide you with the specific Services you select, and to communicate with you about Site maintenance and updates, as appropriate.

C. Anonymous Information

If you access or use our Site without registering, the only information we will collect will be “Anonymous Information,” consisting, collectively, of the following.

Cookies: When you visit the Site and use the Services, we may employ “cookies,” which are small computer files transferred to your computer’s hard drive that collect Anonymous Information, such as your User preferences, the web pages that you’ve visited and the activities you’ve performed while using the Site in order to customize your experience on the Site. We do not link the information stored in cookies to any of your Personal Information. You may block cookies or delete cookies from your hard drive; however, by disabling cookies, you may not have access to all of the features of the Site. Some of our business partners also use cookies to provide us with Anonymous Information regarding your use of the Site. We do not have access or control over these cookies, and our Privacy Policy does not cover the use of third party cookies.

Web Beacons/Log Files. We and our suppliers (including providers of web analytics tools) may also use “web beacons,” “log files,” and other similar technologies to help us deliver a better User experience and to facilitate your ongoing access to and use of the Site, Services, and of any emails, special promotions or newsletters we may send you. Web beacons are tiny graphic image files embedded in a web page or email that provide a presence on the web page or email and send back to its home server certain information from the User’s browser. The information collected by web beacons allows us to statistically monitor how many people are using our Site and for what purposes.

Traffic Data. We also automatically track and collect the following categories of information when you visit our Site:

  • IP addresses;
  • domain servers;
  • types of computers accessing the Site;
  • types of web browsers used to access the Site;
  • referring source which may have sent you to the Site; and
  • other information associated with the interaction of your browser and the Site (collectively “Traffic Data”). We do not link Traffic Data to Personal Information.

D. Updating Your Personal Information

You can update or delete your Personal Information at any time by logging into your account on the Site or by contacting us at any time to request that we update or delete any Personal Information we may have about you from our database.

E. Children

We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of thirteen (13).

F. User Content

In accordance with our Terms of Service, you retain control over and are solely responsible for your User Content, including but not limited to any and all listings, executive summaries, and/or comments you upload or post on/to the Site or Services, including for any Personal Information or any proprietary information contained therein, which you are thereby voluntarily choosing to make available to other Registered Users. You are advised to employ good judgment concerning the substance of your User Content as it will be accessible to other Registered Users of the Site. You should not post any User Content on/to the Site which contains any trade secrets, proprietary or confidential information belonging to any Applicant (collectively, “Applicant Information”) or otherwise submit any applicant Information to ARI. ARI shall not have any obligation, duty or responsibility to maintain or attempt to maintain the confidentiality of any Applicant Information or any other User Content submitted to the Site or ARI, and ARI shall have no liability of any kind whatsoever with respect to any inadvertent or intentional disclosure or use of any Personal Information or any Applicant Information which you choose to publicize within your User Content or which you otherwise voluntarily disclose to another Registered User.

3. HOW ARI USES YOUR INFORMATION

A. Personal Information

We may use Personal Information to contact you when necessary, including to send you news about the Site and Services, newsletters, surveys, special offers and to respond to your information requests, to verify your registration, and in conjunction with your use of certain other Services. We may share Personal Information with our business partners who assist us by performing core services related to our operation of the Site and/or by making certain Services available to our Users (such as website hosting, data storage, payment processing and data security). Those business partners shall be bound to uphold the same standards of security and confidentiality that we have promised you in this Privacy Policy, and they will only use your Personal Information to carry out their specific business obligations.

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your Personal Information with any third parties for their promotional purposes.

In addition, we may transfer your Personal Information to another company in connection with a merger, sale, or acquisition by or of ARI or the Site. Lastly, we reserve the right to disclose your Personal Information as required by law and when disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process.

B. Anonymous Information

We use your Anonymous Information to customize and tailor your experience with the Site and Services and in emails to you displaying content that we think you might be interested in, according to your preferences. Because Anonymous Information does not personally identify you, we reserve the right to use Anonymous Information for any purpose we deem appropriate in our sole discretion.

C. Email Opt-Out

If you no longer wish to subscribe to email newsletters from the Site, you may opt-out of receiving them by following the instructions included in the footer of each email.

4. THIRD PARTY CONTRACTORS

Certain Site content and Services may be served or hosted on or otherwise provided to you on/through websites, network infrastructures, systems, telecommunication platforms or via other forms of technology which are operated by a company other than ARI (“Third Party Contractors”). We do not endorse and are not responsible for the privacy practices of any Third Party Contractor, and you should review the privacy policies of all Third Party Contractors whose websites you visit or whose services you use in connection with our Services or otherwise.

5. LINKS TO OTHER WEBSITES

The Site may contain advertisements and links to third party websites with which ARI has no affiliation. ARI does not share your Personal Information with those websites and is not responsible for their data collection practices. Some third party websites may have the same or similar look and feel of our Site, so please be aware that you may be on a different website and that this Privacy Policy only covers our Site. Should you decide to visit one of these third party websites, we suggest that you read its privacy policy carefully.

6. DATA SECURITY

Your Personal Information is stored on a secure, password-protected server. We use industry-standard secure socket layer (“SSL”) encryption technologies with respect to the receipt and transfer of sensitive Personal Information, such as credit card numbers, that you submit to ARI or ARI’s payment processor, and only authorized personnel have access to your Personal Information. Nevertheless, you acknowledge and agree that despite our best efforts, no transmission over the Internet and no data storage method can be guaranteed to be safe one hundred percent of the time and that ARI cannot ensure or guarantee the security of any information you transmit on or through the Site or Services or that any data posted or stored on/through the Site or Services will not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by a breach of any of our industry standard physical, technical or managerial safeguards. ARI shall not be liable for any disclosure or use of your Personal Information which may result from any circumstance outside of our direct and complete control.

7. INTERNATIONAL USERS

The Site is hosted on servers located in the United States. Accordingly, if you are located outside of the United States, the Personal Information and any other content that you provide to the Site will be transferred to the United States. By submitting data to the Site, you consent to its transfer and storage in the United States and its use in accordance with the purposes for which it was collected, as described in this Privacy Policy.

8. PRIVACY POLICY UPDATES

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If the Privacy Policy changes, the revised Policy will be posted on the Site, and we will change the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page to reflect the date of the modification.
